Bug Description

Keyboard on an LG LW25 laptop is not functional anymore on Ubuntu 13.10. Any 3.8.x Ubuntu kernel works fine. Starting with 3.9.0, the keyboard breaks. External keyboards are still fine. A kernel bisect suggests that the first bad commit is:

Input: atkbd - fix multi-byte scancode handling on reconnect

WORKAROUND: Use kernel parameter i8042.dumbkbd=1

I'd like to suggest something;
   It should be possible to build a ppa'd kernel with just that change reverted, then that kernel could be used to see if other apparently similar bugs (like bug 1243904) are actually the same issue without other users having to do the same bisect (especially if they're not technically comfortable doing them).

I'd note that I triaged 1243904 to 'high' on the basis of the bugs/importance entry of 'A problem with an essential hardware component (disk controller, built-in networking, video card, keyboard, mouse)'

A tested patch for this bug for this laptop was made in bug 1243904, so I am marking this as a duplicate. We should continue the discussion there.

Joonas Saarinen, it wouldn't be considered a duplicate as the original reporter of bug 1243904 hasn't advised if the patch has addressed their issue.
