Bug Description

This is a bug related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1210858. Its fix was supposed to be released
in 3.11.0-7.13, but I can confirm that it is still present in 3.11.0-13 and in 3.12 (I used mainline kernel to check it).

The effect is that the USB 2.0 port in my laptop doesn't detects any device when plugged.

Jose Luis Tirado, did this problem not occur in a release prior to Saucy?

I can't tell as the I didn't have a Vaio before this one and Saucy was the first release I installed on it. Anyway, that analysis was already done in the original bug #1210858 by Combat. The bug was supposed to be fixed but, as several users confirmed later, it wasn't actually, and that's the reason why I opened this new one. Do you want me to do any specific test on any release?

Jose Luis Tirado, unfortunately, because bug 1210858 was filed by Combat, it was focusing on him and his hardware (which is different under the hood in comparison to yours). Hence, no analysis has been done regarding your hardware other than that noted in this report.

Despite this, for regression testing purposes, could you please test Precise via http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/ and advise to the results?

In Precise the USB is not detected either. Nothing is shown when plugging/unplugging the device in the syslog, the led of the device remains off and there is no changes in the lsusb output, whether the device is connected or no. I used apport-collect from precise to attach the information.

Jose Luis Tirado, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem through the appropriate channel by following the instructions _verbatim_ at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel#KernelTeam.2BAC8-KernelTeamBugPolicies.Overview_on_Reporting_Bugs_Upstream ?

Please provide a direct URL to your post once you have made it so that it may be tracked.

Thank you for your understanding.

I've been reading the instructions you directed me to and when I was searching for previous reports of the error I found these ones:

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.general/88282/match=vaio
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.general/92905/match=vaio

Therefore I guess I shouldn't create a new report as it would be a duplicated one, though I couldn't get a clear picture of the final state of those two bugs.

Jose Luis Tirado, it is not considered a duplicate upstream or downstream at this time as per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1248687/comments/22 . If you want to see your bug fixed as soon as possible, you would want to make your own post following the direction as previously advised in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1248687/comments/43 .
