This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

Once this bug is reported upstream, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-reported-upstream'.

I found something very interesting. When I disable as default the radeon HDMI audio output from pulseaudio, video playback is normal again.

So maybe is related with the strange behaviour I have with kernel 3.11 and 3.12-RC4. HDMI is enabled whether or not I enable "radeon.audio=1" on GRUB but in both cases even though pulseaudio sound level output indicator inside "volume sound control" panel is showing "pulse", TV speakers doesn't produce any sound.

+ enabled (no sound at all)

Exact same with me. However, when I disable the HDMI audio, I am able to use the analog output and then sound and audio both function appropriately. - JAR

I am experiencing the same symptoms after upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10. When I select HDMI as my output sound source video and audo appear to play in fast forward. When using analog sound everything appears to work correctly. This was working correctly in 13.04.

with xrandr --output DVI-0 --set audio auto I managed to re-enable audio actual output but video is still playing at fast forward.

Update: I just tested 3.12 RC7 kernel. Sound output is fixed (doesn't need xrandr to be enabled but only "radeon.audio=1") but video playback is still "fast forward" like.

Giannis, the next step is to fully commit bisect from 3.9.11 to 13.10.0, in order to identify the offending commit. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Commit_bisecting_upstream_kernel_versions ?

Commit bisect (building a kernel) is NOT something a novice user can follow.

Thanks Christopher,

That's a lot of documentation to read through and I haven't installed an alternate kernel for a long time so it will take me some time to get this done. I likely will not be able to get back to this until next month.
