First I installed stock Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail with kernel 3.8. Trackpad was functioning correctly (e.g. two-finger scrolling worked) and was recognized as Synaptics device in /proc/bus/input/devices.
Due to very new Intel wireless 7260 hardware that did not work in kernel 3.8, I had to upgrade my kernel to latest 3.11rc. With this kernel my Synaptics trackpad is no longer recognized as Synaptics and works as default evdev pointer (mouse) device, without all the trackpad features.
I dist-upgraded to 13.10 Saucy Salamander with kernel 3.10 to see if it may have been fixed there. But unfortunately the trackpad regression is also there.
