Bug Description

CID: 201208-11537 Dell Latitude 6430u

There is a SIM card slot on this system, however, there is no such option for it to connect to 3G network in the Network Manager

But there is one extra non-working Ethernet device in it, "Novatel Wireless HSPA" [413c:819b]

I guess maybe it's for the 3G modem, but was incorrectly detected.

Three devices detected by udev and Network Manager:

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

The modem is now available in Network manager, and the 3G network is working.

By the way, I can't connect to 3G network easily, I have to retry 3 or 4 times to get it connected.

Po-Hsu Lin, as per your https://launchpadlibrarian.net/143527660/BootDmesg.txt :
[ 0.502870] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored

Hence, as per http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/latitude-6430u-ultrabook an update is available for your BIOS (A06). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and just provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.

Hello Christopher,

As this 3G modem could work with newer kenel, and the error message you pointed out is a "Firmware Bug",
I don't think this will be BIOS, related.

Thanks
