I've added the 'kernel-fixed-upstream' tag and marked it 'Confirmed'.

Here's what happened:
Boot with new kernel. Freeze after a while.
Boot again. New freeze.
Boot again and suspend/resume. Didn't wait for result.
Boot again. Didn't freeze for a long time. At least 30 min. Didn't wait any longer.
Boot again. Didn't freeze for a long time. At least 30 min. Didn't wait any longer.
Boot again. Started trying to rip a CD while waiting/testing. Freeze occurred.

Alt-SysRq-R-E-I-S-U-B continues to have no effect during freezes

'cat /proc/version' returns the following:
Linux version 3.9.0-030900-generic (apw@gomeisa) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) ) #201304291257 SMP Mon Apr 29 16:58:15 UTC 2013
