After this bug, the system hangs on reboot. I need to press&hold Power button to restart it.
This bug is reproduced on next reboot.
Now trying kernel 3.8.7 from mainline PPA

speakers and microphone work as they should.

so, the bug is most probably caused by some add-on Ubuntu patch.

I just experienced the same problem after booting 3.8.0-18-generic for the first time. When booting the previous kernel 3.8.0-17-generic sound works as expected. The bug must have been introduced by the latest patch-set.

I'm also seeing this traceback now at boot on a MacBook Air 5.2 on Raring with 3.8.0-18-generic (the stock kernel as of 2013-04-17).

I only upgraded this machine yesterday, so I don't have any earlier 3.8.0 kernels to compare to.

After switching to a testing build of 3.9 kernel, this problem is gone.

I was also seeing this on a macbook air, can confirm that RC8 build fixes this issue.
