This bug is definetly fixed for me on a lenovo 3000 N100 048 after adding the kernel boot parameter i8042.reset to the line
# defoptions=quiet splash
in /boot/grub/menu.lst

Ubuntu 8.10, 2.6.27-11-generic

note: it also fixed the num-lock post suspend bug for me.
