Bug Description

No detection via autosensing. Checked the display properties and the system recognizes there's something connected, just lists the panel as "unknown" and never pushes a display to it.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Also, does it happen with the open source drivers as well?

@ara: I retested this without the ATI driver and the VGA port works, however I typically install Video Drivers for Suspend reasons, which was the reason I tested with the ATI driver first. However, regardless of video problem I also found another issue[1] with this system and updated the certificate to reflect it. I'll check the 3.8-rc2 kernel next.

I retested with the following kernel: "linux-image-3.8.0-030800rc2-generic_3.8.0-030800rc2.201301022235_amd64" and the VGA port and HDMI ports are still not active or working.

This bug was not present on enabled systems in Oneiric. If we can test Oneiric on these systems, it would be a good data point to have, to see if it was something that is a regression or a workaround on the iso that fixed it.

Hi Jeff,

Could you please test Oneiric to see if this bug happens there as well? This would be a good starting point to track down this problem. Thanks!

This sounds like a regression in the fglrx driver rather than one in the kernel, especially considering the fact that the open driver (which lives in the kernel) works correctly.
