I installed fresh xubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64 and installed both as described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . With the kernel 3.2.0-31 and shutdowns (see my P.S. section :) did not work.

I installed the Mainline kernel as adviced.

uname -a
3.6.0-030600rc7-generic #201209232235...

Shutdown still does not work. Boots beautifully with "sudo shutdown -r0".

HOWEVER something little different happens: If I do the shutdown as root and do "shutdown 0" the screen turns to black and freezes. If I however do shutdown from UI Application Menu or by "shutdown -P 0", it asks the sudo password and shows me the Xubuntu wallpaper and jams the same way. I mean the totally blank screen is something new. I don't if this is relevant information...

P.S. Is there some other ways I could still try to shutdown the computer? I've tried at least: "sudo shutdown 0", "sudo shutdown -P 0", "sudo shutdown -P 0", making shutdown from UI.
