Forgot that I haven't found a way to boot from USB on the desktop machine (and can't understand it - doesn't it really support it or can't I just figure out what to press..)

Anyway I booted the laptop with 10.04.3 64-bit live image and ran the same test as above, connecting the 12.04 desktop (6-pin) and 10.04.3 laptop (4-pin).

No messages on laptop, nothing.

On desktop I again saw this:
