Sorry, there is no Nvidia hardware in this system now. The binary drivers were left around from previous hardware (recently upgraded to this current system). After purging them, and rebooting, the same secondary screen issue ensues, and GL things are very crashy. Also, taking a screenshot does result in the secondary display contents appearing correctly in the PNG.
