There are unfortunately no option to disable UEFI in the BIOS, and the AHCI to IDE responds with an error if i try to change it.
To me the problem in the provided link are that win7 and win8 can not get shutdown, suspend and WiFi to work if windows is installed to boot as UEFI system, but will work if windows is installed to boot from a legacy system.

How does Quantal boot the live session from USB stick?
I have tried both from USB stick created with "Startup disk creator", and "Unetbootin"

lspci sees the RT3090 chip, and the RT2800 driver gets loaded is it network manager that does not recognize it?
