I filed a bug for this against Chromium. https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=137398

It's not obvious to me that this is a Chromium bug as I don't remember the issue occurring with an update in Chrome, but it did coincide with several Ubuntu updates i.e. perhaps something changed in the underlying code that Chrome calls.
