Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse stop working

This problem relates to support for Logitech Unifying Receiver, a USB dongle that communicate with one or more wireless devices. In this case, the devices consist of a keyboard and a mouse.

This bug appears in two contexts:

1) Ubuntu Precise alternate-installer. Firstly the boot menu appears. At this point, the keyboard is fully functioning and allows selecting the language. After "Install Ubuntu" is selected from the menu, the text installer appears prompting for the keyboard. At this point the system no longer responds to key presses on the keyboard. Plugging in a USB keyboard allows use of the newly attached keyboard, but not the existing wireless one. In addition, the newly attached USB keyboard often stops responding at some point during the installation procedure.

2) Ubuntu Precise encrypted LVM password prompt. After booting up a system that has been installed with LVM encryption, Plymouth appears and asks for the password. At this point the system no longer responds to key presses on the keyboard. Plugging in a USB keyboard allows use of the newly attached keyboard, but not the existing wireless one. When the login screen appears, the wireless keyboards works again.

This issue did not arise in Ubuntu Oneiric, which uses the Linux v3.0 kernel.

So I suspected it might be a kernel issue. I have tested several different kernels in a Precise system from the kernel-ppa with the following findings:

I have tested this on three different machines with both Oneiric and Precise with the same results.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

This may be unrelated to the issue you're reporting, but I guess its worth to check if there is a BIOS update for your system.

I have similar issues, though my keyboard works half the time, which is weird.

I have a Logitech Wave keyboard with Unifying receiver, and also a Logitech USB mouse. The keyboard works fine most of the time, but sometimes it stops working after I have booted to Ubuntu 12.04. In grub and in Windows it works every time.

I have yet to study if this not working relates to whether I have last booted to Windows or to Ubuntu.

Is there an ssolution or not wiithout a good working keeyboard is typing a crime. My Logitech K800 wireless and lasermous not function right. In the mean time my keys type fast or too many or les. Iḿ a new with Ubuntu (started with Lucid Lynx) but now with 12.04 LTS and the gnome-sesssion-falllback and layer to delete the last characters. Or I get 3 characters of the same or only one if I use a double. The backspace is not function and the arrow-keys don functioning either. English is not my language of birth (I'm a Dutchman) but I try. Now I use a old mouse with cabel.
All the errors came because for the keyboard-language there isn't the U.S.A as standard for my keyboard. In the Netherlands is 'USA/English international' normal and NOT English/U.S intl + dead keys' (the last choice is not working). Because of this change in Ubuntu 12.04 I cannot login by Google e-mail.. Gmail, no Google-docs, no Google YouTube e.s.o. THANKS UBUNTU!!!

Same here. An older Logitech nano mouse does always work, but the new K-s'thing Logitech keyboard (with one of these unifying adapters) works sometimes, but most of the time it does not.

I have an Anywhere MX with similar issues. It doesn't depend on boot, but it fails in a matter of minutes. On cold boot occasionally I can have it working for 15min and if I plug-it off and re-plug-it it will work for 3m.

The problem arises on 12.04 with 3.2+ kernels. I have test the mouse on a nearby machine with 11.10 several time and works always.
