Update : This seemed to occur under wifi load. Streaming youtube HD or running a repeated speedtest such as http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/
After which all connections were dropped even though network manager still showed connected via wifi. Could not connect to local router ip address. Needs to be rebooted. BTW win7 dual boot is fine.
