Bug Description
The SD card reader causes the boot process to hang in 7.10 (using the kernel 2.6.22-14-generic). I have an Asus x50n, which has a SATA drive, and an SD card reader. I can install 7.10, but simply can't boot. I had to install 7.04, and upgrade to 7.10, but continued using the kernel 2.6.20-16-generic. When I look at /var/log/dmesg when booting the 2.6.20-16-generic kernel, I see a few lines like this:
[ 10.304000] scsi 2:0:0:0: Direct-Access Generic- xD/SDMMC/MS/Pro 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 CCS
[ 10.688000] SCSI device sdb: 990976 512-byte hdwr sectors (507 MB)
[ 10.692000] sdb: Write Protect is off
[ 10.692000] sdb: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00
[ 10.692000] sdb: assuming drive cache: write through
[ 10.700000] SCSI device sdb: 990976 512-byte hdwr sectors (507 MB)
[ 10.700000] sdb: Write Protect is off
[ 10.700000] sdb: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00
[ 10.700000] sdb: assuming drive cache: write through
[ 10.700000] sdb: sdb1
[ 10.704000] sd 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi removable disk sdb
[ 10.704000] sd 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0
...and the boot process continues. However, when I'm booting from the 7.10 kernel, the boot process hangs at the last line, then I get bumped into a busy box, with this output
Check root = bootarg cat /proc/cmdline
or missing modules, devices: cat /proc/modules ls /dev
ALERT! /dev/disk/
The difference between what I see when I boot from the .22 kernel as opposed to the .20 kernel is that in the above dmesg (for the .20 kernel) the SD card reader becomes sdb and the SATA drive is sda, whereas booting from the .22 kernel the SD card reader becomes sda. I don't know if this makes a difference - I'll take a picture of the output of the boot process for the .22 kernel and attach it later.
By the way, this is similar to this thread

except the initial post reports the "quiet splash" problem.
Thanks for your time,
John
Here's the output from the 2.6.22-14 kernel.
