Bug Description

The gutsy beta kernel 2.6.22-12-generic behaves very eratically on my Asus F5 laptop (X50N Series it says on the label). It hardly ever boots with the 'quiet splash' options. Removing these options and adding 'nosplash' instead does allow this kernel to boot most of the time.

When the boot process hangs, it invariably happens right after the builtin SD card reader has been recognized and attached as a generic SCSI device sg0. There's no card in the drive, as I don't own any SD cards.

Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. Gutsy did install wrong values in /etc/usplash.conf which caused various issue, but this problem is now fixed in Hardy. Can you install a fresh Hardy installation and confirm if this bug is fixed for your laptop?
