I can confirm that after an upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid just a few days ago the battery behaviour got worse. I am now on 2.6.27-7-generic SMP x86_64.

The battery and AC status seem to be detected correctly during boot, but after that the charge applet displays: "Battery state could not be read at this time", and also detects the AC state wrong.

This is on an MSI S271 (1058) with BIOS version 1.21. When booting the supplied Windows XP, battery status works perfectly.
