Yesterday's updates broke ACPI (I suspect) on HP Compaq nc8430 laptops (two threads in Gutsy Development Forums about this).

The boot stops at different times, but always to the messages:

12.136... ACPI: bus type pci registered
12.136... PCI: Using configuration type 1
12.138... ACPI : EC: GPE=0x16, ports=0x66, 0x62

and there it freezes.

Later , a messsage may pop up:
38.736...: "CPU1:Temperature/speed normal "

A temporary fix is to add acpi=off and irqpoll options to grub menu.lst
But, since this is a laptop, it is important to get ACPI working.

It could be that the changes that were made specifically for Lenovo Thinkpads that appeared yesterday (there were plenty) have something to do with this.

I did a little research in google. Maybe it is related to the embedded Controller of the laptop not responding and enabling async scanning in .config of the 2.6.22 kernel

Could be, if the recent updates (=yesterday) changed that part.
However, I do not know how to verify/test that without instructions.

Before yesterday's updates almost everything was working fine! (I'm running the 64-bit version of Gutsy)
