As a workaround, the following instructions makes the internal 3g modem loaded upon boot and available after suspends, hibernations etc:
1. Add "usbserial" to /etc/modules 2. Add "options usbserial vendor=0x413c product=0x8138" to /etc/modprobe.d/options
You need to potentially adjust the product option according to the number you have listed in the output of "lsusb".
Umtsmon (http://umtsmon.sourceforge.net) can then successfully use the modem to easily establish an internet connection.
Note: There was no need to "activate" the modem in Windows.
