Doesn't solve my problem anyway (IDE -> SATA adapter). Managed to get machine booted with 2.6.20-13 kernel by removing the SATA adapter and connecting the disk on IDE. Installed -14 kernel from apt.
Copy of errors from a recovery boot attached. I didn't add what I assume are the timestamps in square brackets. If they can help, let me know.
