I can also confirm the very same problem with sudden power shutdown while booting Ubuntu 7.04 on a HP Omnibook 6100. Previous version Dapper and Edgy were just fine. The notebook also boots fine under Windows XP (though it sometimes crashes under Windows but that is not a hardware problem but a problem of this Windows system :-)

I also noticed that th boot process under 7.04 is much slower. Before it starts actually accessing the harddisk, the boot process is apparently running idle or waiting.

The sudden power down occurs with a likelihood of approx. 75%. So, 1 out of 4 boot attempts are successful.
