I just want to remind people that:

1.) For many people the autosuspend fix doesn't resolve this bug (for me it didn't)
2.) This bug may also be caused by low quality cables. For example, a low quality 1.1 cable will give I/O errors when connecting a USB 2.0 device with it.

Actually, I think that quite a lot of cases of this bug are caused by low quality cables and/or wiring.
So if you notice that you experience this problem in both Windows and Linux, please check if your USB cables are _real_ USB 2.0 cables. Also, if you're using the cases front plugs, try the plugs in the back. Chance is the wiring inside your PC case is of low quality.

So a fallback to uhci_hcd would resolve point 2, and temporarily fix 1 while it still isn't solved. Fixing this bug _soon_ is more important than fixing it _ the proper way_. Most Normal People care more about the fact that their device works than transfer speed.
