I am running hardy 8.04.2 2.6.24-23-generic. For a week or more my optical wheel mouse is going crazy too. It will stop responding or just fly around and right click on it's own. I tried another one but it didn't help.

Syslog shows errors:
[ 9918.582579] psmouse.c: bad data from KBC - timeout
[ 9988.492592] psmouse.c: Wheel Mouse at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 3 bytes away.
[ 9993.100946] psmouse.c: resync failed, issuing reconnect request

[16228.424932] psmouse.c: failed to re-enable mouse on isa0060/serio1

The same for messages log.

This is a fairly fresh install of Ubuntu. I did reinstall because of another problem where mouse and keyboard will stop responding when using firefox or opera. Freeze is so bad That I have to unplug the computer. Reinstall did not help.
