I wonder if a lack of free hard disk space is a potential reason for the observed phenomena (freezing with no error message)? Maybe the upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 has consumed some disk space reserves I had before? Unfortunately, I can't verify this within the next 10 hours and I don't know how much disk-space is really needed for suspend or hibernate... eventually as much as the RAM I have (1.5GB)?
