I to have to concur with Phillip and Sitsofe
here is my lsmod output for libata (ICH6)
libata 125720 1 ata_generic scsi_mod 142348 3 sr_mod,sbp2,libata
note a distinct lack of ata_piix
so no cyclic argument ata_piix just doesn't get a look in
Though I think we may be seeing the results of a 'fix' for the Debian issue.
It is not so much the Driver with an issue (its not loaded) but the hardware detection (who gets to drive what)
