concerning the resume images I would guess there is a /dev reference in fstab, too.

regarding grub, to my experience the device.map is only used when installing grub onto a drive (by grub shell or by "grub-install")

I did the update-initramfs already before opening this thread, but it (obviously ;-) didn't help me.
