PS:
I got into the system, booting in 2.6.20-16, by pressing ctrl-alt-F1after the system stopped.
There I got the following message:

Could not stat the resume device file
Please type in the filename to try again or press ENTER
to boot the system

(I pressed enter)

or:
To update for all kernels type
sudo update-initramfs -u -k all
