If I toggle the kernel's uhci module then the output stops. Attached is the relevant part of dmesg when I run the following:
$ sudo modprobe uhci_hcd ; sleep 2 ; sudo modprobe -r uhci_hcd

This is with no devices connected the the USB ports.
