I wonder whether it's related to interference from other devices?

I have a BT cordless phone next to the wifi router and when the phone is off its base station wifi speeds are terrible (ping reports about 20% packet loss) but when the phone is on its base station speeds are much improved (ping reports about 1-2% packet loss). I've just noticed this today and am very relieved to have usable wifi again!

My Mac laptop doesn't seem to suffer from the same problems (and it's right next to my Dell laptop).
