This is not a duplicate, the crash came from a different point in the install (according to the syslog). The kernel had a problem occur:
Oct 21 02:40:02 ubuntu kernel: [17180155.012000] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000014
Also, retried several times and it did not work. many times it would hang the entire system, with no response whatsoever and a hard reboot needed. The CD verified to be correct as well.
