Append this on your /boot/grub/menu.lst kernel startup instruction:
acpi=off. i.e.

title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.15-27-686
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-27-686 root=/dev/sda2 ro quiet splash
acpi=off
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-27-686
savedefault
boot

These seems a kernel bug with motherboard acpi features :(
