My desktop exhibits the same problem - not powering down on shutdown, but will restart ok. I've tried "acpi=force lapic" and "acpi=power-off" boot options with no success. I'm running version 2.6.15-26-386 of the kernel with Dapper.

My CPU's an AMD Athlon with an Asus motherboard (about four years old).
