I have experienced that ubuntu randomly hangs after reporting "...will now halt" when it should have powered off. Also I tried try Hybernate and the screen went black but the power was still on.
In both cases I eventually did a hard poweroff. When I repowered, ubuntu did a filesystem check and I had to reboot the system again before entering the desktop.
I have no battery inserted in my laptop and I run Ext2 filesystem. My wireless pcmcia card is 3Com® OfficeConnect® Wireless 108Mbps 11g XJACK PC Card, Product # 3CRXJK10075. My ethernet pcmcia card is Micronet model SP125 V2.
