I've added /sbin/rmmod snd_hda_intel to the end of /etc/default/halt, and after that shutdown on my ASUS P5GD1 with Ubuntu Hardy works like a charm again! Thanks a lot StevenMcCoy!

Maybe you should just use rmmod instead of rmmmod?
