I have a CentrinoDuo laptop (ICH7) from PackardBell and it won't power off anymore since Edgy upgrade; can't tell if it happened within a kernel upgrade; as all the others my system stop functioning with the text "Will now halt" and simply... won't halt!
I tried to put that acpi=force lapic but didn't helped. I tried even to change the halt parameters in /etc/init.d/halt. Actually I found that is:
halt -d -f -i $poweroff $hddown
I found (from man pages) that all the parameters mean something except "-d". Thinking I've found the problem I rewritten the line without the -d and... nothing changed... still have to keep the poweroff button pressed to completely power off the laptop. I so tried to change the $poweroff to "-p" (explicitly) but as before nothing new happened.
