I also confim that the edgy 2.6.17 did not give any problem to me in the last month on a Dell D820. The machine was upgraded to firmware A04, so I cannot really say whether:
1) kernel 2.6.17 fixed the issue
2) firmware upgrade A04 fixed the issue
3) I have just been lucky in not hitting the problem so far
Somehow, I tend to think that 2) is the correct one.
