The debian bug is not the same one as this. It describes a hang on Dell laptops in hwclock, which is worked around by using --directisa. Out problem isn't a hang.
I'd be interested if someone could tell me the output of this command:
sudo hwclock -D
This should provide more informationa bout what is going on.
