AV710 ICE1724 eeprom error!

Install AV710 sound card boot any Ubuntu offical kernel, check kern.log I have this listed.

A solution is available on the internet, but I have no way to verify if it works or not, as I am discourged from using self compiled modules with Ubuntu. In fact have been chastised for doing so.

Saw this bug here, I am having this problem as well (it should be noted that flash can crash my system, which is sort of how I ended up here). I am running:

I would be very happy to help fix this bug (if someone can give me a starting point), Should I open a new ticket since i am actually using a different kernel?

I have seen this bug in Debian as well so I would suggest that any help will be welcome. For the research I have been doing it seems to be a error in not having the proper eeprom code string read to the kernel. So I would assume that any kernel would have that error, but since this card is old it might not get the attention it needs. Since I do not know much about the eeprom codes or how they are read I am really at a loose for what is needed from me but will be willing to help as well.

I think the main question is if this error is actually causing problems or not. As far as I can tell my soundcard works fine. The only reason I investigated this is that Flash video will crash my entire system, and this behavior only started after I installed this new soundcard. I am planning on hooking up netconsole today or tomorrow to see if I can get some more information from the oops (currently nothing is written to disk nor console when this occurs). I will post my findings here.

Well, I did some additional debugging and the problem is just getting more mysterious. Netconsole was only registering part of the Oops, so I thought I would try using a serial cable, but the same problem still occurs (I only get part of the oops). I got two crashes today while playing flash video, here is the first:

I found it odd that I got a panic that time instead of an oops, so this could have been caused by something else. Here is what I got the second time:

The last part is from the reboot. I am assuming the eeprom error and the crashes are related, but that is just a wild guess really. I am going to try using kgdb to see if I can get more information. Any ideas or insight into how to continue attacking this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the follow up. I still intermittently have freezing/crashing (seemingly due to Flash), however, I am of the opinion that it is a hardware issue now. Switching PCI slots reduced the frequency of crashes, though they still occur. Additionally, Windows Vista seems to suffer from the problem as well.

I still get the EEPROM error, but I don't believe this is actually the problem. I will not have a chance to test the beta for about a week, but I will do so and let you know of the results.
