as vikas described the iec958 has a on/off functionallity - and the sound at the dock is very glitchy if i do with iec958

as i wrote in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=370456

amixer controls %% search the id of IEC-default (at my system 35)
amixer -c 0 cset numid=35 6 %% 6 = 96kHz

changing the samplerate fixed this problem for me for a certain time (10-15 minutes or so)
after this time the output on the ddock is quite again ... perhaps this hint could help somebody to fix this
