Something very similar happening for me too with a Kingston U3 1MB usb drive.
I found that the drive does mount correctly if it is plugged in before the computer is started, but that plugging in to a running system only occasionally (about one in five attempts or less) leads to a mounted device, sometimes several minutes after plugging it in. I've seen similar output to the above (in ../log/messages) , but without the error lines, when this happens. Once mounted it works fine.
The device mounts promptly and reliably on a running Breezy system.
