I have the same card and same connection (WPA-PSK+AES=WPA2-PSK) but do not have any problems. I know that in past ipw2200 driver had problems with hw encryption and it helped to turn it off.
Can you try loading your ipw2200 kernel module with "hwcrypto=0" option? (you can also put it into /etc/modprobe.d/ file to make it permanent).
