My fault - I should have written "... install breezy, wait for the next kernel upgrade to dapper and then dist-upgrade."
You might be able to boot using the breezy kernel (should be called something with "old" in yaboot), but there might be some missing functionallity (e.g. sound, USB hotplug). It should give you the opportunity to upgrade the kernel when it is released though.
