Hello Brian,
Thanks for asking, I haven't been going back to the Launchpad site to check.
So far, the USB drive has stopped dying out on its own after a while,
probably after the next kernel upgrade for Dapper. So it seems solved.

However, another bug surfaced: While the USB thumb drive is plugged in the
rear port, I plugged an ipod in the casing USB port, and both died. Probably
overwhelmed. I also don't have utilities yet for the ipod in my Kubuntu
installation. So I guess that's another issue entirely.

Thanks for the attention to this issue.

We must dare to think 'unthinkable thoughts.' We must learn to explore all
of the options and possibilities that confront us in a complex and rapidly
changing world. We must learn to welcome rather than fear the voices of
dissent. We must dare to think about 'unthinkable things,' because when
things become 'unthinkable,' thinking stops and actions become mindless.
