The main cause of this bug is a patch to the ubuntu version of hal (added in
version 0.5.3-0ubuntu8) to force the storage.requires_eject property on usb
storage devices. You can locally workaround the issue, see bug 24399 for the file.

FWIW, this affects me with my Nokia 770 device
