If the new linux image got properly installed, it should have added a new entry in GRUB to boot that kernel (it will probably be placed inside an "Advanced options" submenu)

I expect it will at least work before starting wayland, and it will detect and list the monitor. Depending on the drivers used, you might face an API mismatch later requiring further fixing.
