I have the exact same problem. I use:

Compaq nw8440 with ATI FireGL v5200
Laptop's LCD 1920x1200
Dell 2407 1920x1200
Compiz

I had a lot of problems configuring BigDesktop, but now it works fine except the problem mentioned.
