I have exactly the same errors and warnings in my X log as described here. Maik wrote that he found a missing package of kernel headers, but I have found no such gap. Could we get a little more info on what packages need to be installed (or, even better, which were missing from your system, Maik)?

Bryce said that 8.04.1 will be released shortly and might include fglrx 8.5. Are we thinking that this problem is resolved in 8.5? If so, I would certainly be willing to wait on it. I think I could live without Compiz for a few days :P
