@ideefixe: I only tested suspend once with 7.12, since the 1280x800 screen resolution is a show-stopper for me, and the compiz effects were still a bit choppy.

I've got a Mobility Radeon 9600 card, like roofone, and I get the same results (ie screen and laptop fail to shut off). I wonder if the latest fglrx works for some cards and not others?
